Dive into the captivating world of flying-foxes at Bat Night @ Machattie Park on Friday 14 March 2025!

Come join us at Bathurst’s historic Machattie Park to discover more about these special native megabats and learn why they’re so important for our Australian bushland forests!

Explore the secrets of flying-fox ecology and find out how these important winged creatures play a big role in our environment. Hear about the efforts of Bathurst Regional Council and WIRES Central West in saving this threatened species and find out how you can get involved or show your support!

Our two-hour event includes an educational talk by ecologist and flying-fox expert Matthew Mo from the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Catch a fun and interactive performance by Eaton Gorge Theatre Companies as our flying-fox mascots Bruce and Batty take on the challenge of Bat Survivor Australia. Take a stroll on a guided wildlife tour of our seasonal flying-fox colony, and don’t miss the breathtaking moment when the flying-foxes take off at sunset!

Feel free to bring your own picnic and enjoy the flyout spectacle to wrap up the evening. If you can, bring along a camp chair so you can sit in comfort, and some binoculars to get a close-up look at these incredible flying-foxes!

This event is free, welcoming to all, and perfect for families. No need to book – just come and join us for an evening of flying-fox fun!
