Xiaohe Ancient Village is located in Yijing Town, Yangquan City, on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Taohe River. It is listed as the third batch of Chinese historical and cultural famous villages. The village the hometown of the famous writer and progressive poet Shi Pingmei who is known as “the four talented women of China” together with Lv Bicheng, Xiao Hong and Zhang Ailing in the 1920s.
Xiaohe Ancient Village has well arranged courtyard buildings that is exquisitely crafted with stone, brick, and wood carvings. There are over 34000 square meters of traditional ancient architectures and over 30000 square meters of buildings of the Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and Republican periods. There are 178 traditional courtyards, including streets and lanes such as Fudi Lane, Li Family Ancestral Hall Lane, Shi Family Old House Lane and Commercial buildings such as pawnshops, shops and vinegar shops.
Xiaohe Ancient Village has a history of over 1700 years. The surnames in the village are Shi, Dou, and Li. Shi is the largest surname, accounting for 40% of the village’s population of over 1000. The villagers here are honest and kind, and being kind to others has been the principle of them for generations.
Today, Xiaohe Ancient Village continues to explore its distinctive cultural meaning by launching the “Cultural Night Market” in Yangquan City at first, which includes themed consumption scenes of “Night Market, Night Exhibition, Night Food, Night Show, Night Accommodation, and Night View” to promote local economic development. The ancient village is also a good place for children to receive patriotic education.
小河古村位于阳泉市城区义井镇，地处桃河中游南岸，名列第3批中国历史文化名村。这里是20世纪20年代著名作家、进步诗人石评梅的故里。
小河古村建筑包含石雕、砖雕、木雕以及错落有致的院落。传统古建筑有34000多平方米，现存明清以及民国时期的各类建筑三万多平方米。传统院落一百七十八处，其中街巷有福地巷，李家祠堂巷、石家老宅巷等；商业建筑有当铺、商铺、醋坊等。
据记载，古老的小河村已经有1700多年的历史。村里主要有石姓、窦姓和李姓，石姓是最大的姓氏，占到全村1000多人口的40%，小河村民风淳厚，与人为善是小河村世世代代为人处世的原则。
如今的小河古村，续挖掘特色文化内涵，率先在阳泉市启动“文化夜市”，打造“夜市、夜展、夜食、夜秀、夜宿、夜景”六大主题消费场景，促进当地经济发展，也是孩子们接受爱国主义教育的好去处。
