Pingding Paper Cuttings is a municipal intangible cultural heritage project with various and distinctive themes, profound artistic conception and long history.
The “outline of the moon” is a representative of Pingding Paper Cuttings folk culture and is widely spread. It is usually used for wedding ceremonies as a a unique custom in Pingding, symbolizing sweet love.
The circular shape of paper cuttings has profound symbolic meanings, and its cutting methods are diverse. It resembles the moon on the15th day of each lunar month, which is extremely round, big and bright, hence it is also known as the “moon outline”. Putting them on the walls or windows of the bridal chamber symbolizes pure love and sweet happy life of the young couple. Its roundness shape symbolizes the harmonious reunion of the whole family and the perfect of everything.
平定剪纸是市级非遗传承项目。题材多样，主题鲜明，意境深刻，渊源悠长是平定剪纸的最大特色。
能代表平定剪纸悠久民间文化并被广为流传的要属办喜事用的“月廓”，即“盘合”。“月廓”，顾名思义，就是月亮的轮廓，喻示甜美的爱情。这是平定特有的风俗，沿俗而成为当地人结婚时的徽标，成为平定民间结婚是必不可少的民俗！
盘合剪纸纹样和本身的象征意蕴深邃，内涵丰富，其剪法多样，变化万千。盘合为圆形，很象十五的月亮，故亦称之为“月廓”。盘合贴在新婚洞房墙壁上或窗上，酷似一轮明月高悬，不仅象征小夫妻纯真恩爱和甜蜜的美满意境，而且其圆，寓含着合家和睦团圆，万事圆满之意。
